There is a pervasive myth in the baseball world that the abuse of steroids was really a good thing for the sport. It is said that Mark McGuire and Sammy Sosa were "obvious" juicers, and their homerun race in 1998 "saved" baseball. The owners and the management of baseball were making so much money, that they were willing to overlook the drug cheating so they could put paying butts into the unsold seats.
